Greedy Lickle Boy
by Ade Rowe

It was so heavy, and he was so hungry but he would not eat it. No matter how many people from the village told him to eat it, he just flat out refused. There wasn't any food left in the house. His father died when he was a baby, and his mother had left a few months ago. All the food was gone.

He was a greedy little boy. That's what the villagers called him, in their patronizing baby talk. Greedy Lickle Boy. The bastards didn't care about him anyway. They always hated his mother, called her a freak. Eat up you greedy lickle boy. All he had in the world was the pumpkin. No matter how hungry he was he would never eat it. Eat up you greedy lickle boy. No. Never.

His mother was a strange woman. Some called her evil, deranged, mad. She loved her family, and it was so heart wrenching for her to leave but it had to be done. Eat up you greedy lickle boy. He wasted away, still carrying the now even heavier pumpkin.

Whispers and laughs coming from the doorways of the village, Eat up you greedy lickle boy. I heard his mother was a witch. He missed his mother, but he understood that it was for the best. Eat up you greedy lickle boy. No. He would never eat the pumpkin. The pumpkin was his best friend. He would guard the pumpkin with his life.

Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Never. Never. Never. He would guard his twin with his life, his twin sister that mother also walked out on, the twin that mother didn't like, the twin that mother turned into a pumpkin. I heard his mother was a witch. She was. Eat up you greedy lickle boy. No. I love my twin sister. I'll guard her with my life.
